The health care sector in America is broken — and it is the government’s fault. Few people realize the federal government pays for 60 percent of health care services in this country, either directly or indirectly. Repealing Obamacare is just the beginning — we need fundamental health care reform that empowers patients, not bureacrats.
Unlike Tim Murphy, I do not believe that government is the solution. If you read his website, you’ll find a health care manifesto that never once mentions the ills of government intervention in health care. In fact, Rep. Murphy believes that expanding government-run community health centers is a big part of the solution to our broken health care system. The community health center program is the pet program of the Senate’s only self-avowed socialist, Sen. Bernie Sanders.
In order to fix health care, we must reform our health care entitlements to provide for better private insurance at a lower cost than government programs. This can be done through direct assistance to seniors or low-income individuals that allows for maximum competition and choice. For those under 65, we must reform the tax treatment of health care so as to stop giving out tax breaks that incentivize over-consumption of health care and even the playing field among health insurance purchased through an employer or on the individual market.
These reforms, among others to eliminate excessive government regulations, will allow for a real free market in that will give all Americans better, less expensive health care. I have spent my career coming up with innovative policies to limit government and expand freedom in the health care industry and led in the fight on Capitol Hill against Obamacare.
